WHAT DO THEY DO?
All sorts of things, well just about everything. Some of them produce nitrogen (N) from soil. Some cause diseases like botulism. Some bacteria also live inside the stomachs of cows to help them break down cellulose. Cows on their own can digest grass and plants as well as we can. They don't get much nutrients out of the plants and cant break down the cellulose. With those super bacteria, the cellulose can be broken down into sugars and then release all the energy they need. Imagine if scientists can develop bacteria inside of us that would break down plants. That would be something. We could eat grass, plants and leaves all day.
